The Suspect (1944)

"Well, here's to love grown cold."

Directed by: Robert Siodmak
Cinematography by: Paul Ivano
Country: United States

Plot:
After falling in love with a younger woman, an unhappily married middle-aged man murders his wife and covers it up as an accident.

Reasons to watch:
Diving into Robert Siodmak’s noirs before they leave The Criterion Channel, and while this is the weakest of the four - and often closer to melodrama than noir - it’s still got some meat on its bones. Charles Laughton commands the screen as the fraying widower, Ella Raines is utterly captivating as the young love interest, and the impish dialogue drops foreshadowing around every darkened corner.

Where to watch:
The Criterion Channel
