Buffalo ‘66 (1998)

"Let's look like we like each other, and span time, and do not touch me."

Directed by: Vincent Gallo
Cinematography by: Lance Acord

Plot:
Just released from prison, a deeply lonely and troubled young man goes to great lengths to impress his parents - including kidnapping a random girl at a dance studio (where he had to take a leak) to pretend to be his wife.

Reasons to watch:
I wasn’t even sure how to process this movie after it finished the way it dodges, ducks, dips, dives, and dodges it’s way around standard genre conventions. In this existential dark comedy romance - where half the time I wasn’t even sure if I was supposed to be laughing or not - Vincent Gallo’s self-indulgently bizarre yet captivating artistry merges sharp style and lightly playful experimentation with suburban surrealism and transgressive morality. A uniquely weird and imperfect experience that epitomizes the freewheeling spirit of independent cinema.
