Three... Extremes (2004)

"I want to be you, to sleep like you... to have nice dreams."

Directed by: Fruit Chan (segment "Dumplings")
Park Chan-wook (segment "Cut")
& Takashi Miike (segment "Box")
Cinematography by: Christopher Doyle (segment "Dumplings")
Chung-hoon Chung (segment "Cut")
& Kôichi Kawakami (segment "Box")

Plot:
A cross-continent East Asian anthology team-up from Chinese director Fruit Chan, South Korean director Park Chan-wook, and Japanese director Takashi Miike. In the first segment, an aging actress with an unfaithful husband seeks to regain her youth; in the second, a film director and his wife are subject to the sadistic games of a deranged extra; and in the third, a young artist is haunted by an accident from her past as part of a traveling circus troupe.

Reasons to watch:
As far as anthologies go, this is high caliber. Each director brings their own unique approach, whether it's Chan's modern-day body-horror witchery, Park's ruthless psychological revenge thriller filled with bizarre dark humor, or Miike's masterful dream-logic formalism full of arthouse compositions that - in iconic Miike fashion - treats its story very seriously until the ending which feels more like an absurdist punch-line than anything.
