Daily Movie Rec 9/25/23 (Double Feature)
For All Mankind (1989)
"The path of evolution is now in space as much as on Earth."
Directed by: Al Reinert
Country: United States
Genre: Documentary
Plot:
A compilation of footage and soundbites from the Apollo missions to the moon between 1968 and 1972.
Reasons to watch:
Astronauts are cool as hell and to be reminded that humans actually set foot on the moon is both humbling and inspiring. Though the missions also kind of served as humanity's greatest vanity project, and it's hard not to separate them from the very valid critiques marginalized communities have made that all the money and brainpower employed to get a few white men to the moon could have been used to lift people out of poverty and help fix the very real problems we have here on Earth instead of galavanting in space, every facet of this documentary still leaves me in awe.
Where to watch:
The Criterion Channel/Max
