The Howling (1981)

"From the day we're born, there is a battle we must fight, a struggle between what is kind and peaceful in our natures, and what is cruel and violent."

Directed by: Joe Dante
Cinematography by: John Hora
Country: United States
Genre: Horror

Plot:
A traumatized reporter goes to a resort for some R&R after she's attacked by the suspected serial killer she's investigating, only for her investigation team to discover strange connections between the resort and her inhuman attacker.

Reasons to watch:
Like any great werewolf film, The Howling displays a keen interest in the duality of human nature and presents those themes with thoughtful sincerity. And like any great werewolf film, the transformation scene from man-beast to beast-man is horrifically impressive. Rob Bottin's makeup work is monumental in the genre, helping to set the mark for the Olympian heights of 80s practical effects.

Where to watch:
Shudder
