The Corruption of Chris Miller (1973)

"You never know when something might happen. And when it does, everything changes so suddenly."
Directed by: Juan Antonio Bardem
Cinematography by: Juan Gelpí
Country: Spain
Plot:
The head games begin when a mysterious drifter shows up at the secluded country estate of a scorned woman and her traumatized stepdaughter, who suffers psychotic breaks whenever there's a thunderstorm.
Reasons to watch:
Having come up during Spain's neorealist movement in the 50s and refining his style during the New Wave in the 60s, Juan Antonio Bardem (uncle to Javier) brought his mature, perceptive craft to The Corruption of Chris Miller, baiting the audience in with the steamy psychological melodrama of the first half, only to rip us wide-eyed and screaming out of the water into the horror of the second. A sneaky strange giallo gem from Spain with a lot more moving parts than meets the eye.
