Citizen Kane (1941)

"He was disappointed in the world so he built one of his own. An absolute monarchy."
Directed by: Orson Welles
Cinematography by: Gregg Toland
Country: United States
Plot:
A reporter seeks to unravel the mystery behind the dying word of the world's wealthiest (really giving meaning to the phrase "richer than god"), most powerful business mogul.
Reasons to watch:
This titan of film history, part investigative procedural drama, part sweeping fictional biopic, is a formal masterpiece about the intrinsic tragedy of the American dream and all the individualists who chase it. The movie may not live up to its reputation for casual viewers, but Citizen Kane's importance to American cinema and influence over the art form at large is no overstatement, as Welles's direction helped to expand the visual repertoire of the medium tenfold.
