Rose scarlatte (1940)

“First we argue, then we say the most bitter horrible words, and then we run into our rooms and write each other secret love letters.”

Cinematography by: Tamás Keményffy
Country: Italy

Plot:
A married man tries to send flowers and a secret admirer love note to a contessa while his wife is on vacation, but the wife intercepts the gifts before she leaves and believes them to be from a mystery man for her. The husband then continues the charade in an effort to see how far his wife will go with the secret love affair.

Reasons to watch:
This concise and amusing screwball comedy marks lauded Italian filmmaker Vittorio De Sica's directorial debut, where he also stars as the romantically vexed and hypocritical husband. It's an absorbing scenario with snappy dialogue, brief snippets of visual poetry, and a wholesome final message about saying nice things to your spouse.
