Mob Psycho 100 [Season 1]

Directed by: Yuzuru Tachikawa
Art Direction by: Ryô Kôno
Animation Director: Yoshimichi Kameda
Country: Japan

Plot:
A middle-school boy with incredible psychic abilities and zero social skills endeavors to gain social standing and get through life without relying on his powers, refusing to use them on others unless absolutely necessary. Adapted from the manga by One.

Reasons to watch:
Clever, fun, and deeply sincere in its messaging, this uniquely off-kilter, action-packed anime - adapted from the creator of the celebrated series One-Punch Man - offers a subversive play on the typical anime power fantasies with its emphasis on becoming a compassionate and well-rounded person, seeing violence as a last resort. The show imparts that just because someone is born with or develops certain advantages that exceed normalcy, it does not make them superior to anyone else. In one way or another, we are all common, and rather than relying on or wallowing in our proficiencies for the sake of ego, we should continue to work on those things that make us more human. It's a take-down of individualism and elitism and a critique of those who close themselves off from the world out of fear of not being good enough rather than using those shortcomings as a reason to embrace community and learn from others. Bonus points for its tasteful representation of a clearly Autistic-coded main character.

Where to watch:
Hulu/Crunchyroll
