Lake Mungo (2008)

"I feel like something bad is going to happen to me. I feel like something bad has happened. It hasn't reached me yet, but it's on its way."

Directed by: Joel Anderson
Cinematography by: John Brawley
Genre: Australia

Plot:
After a teenage girl drowns, her family tries to discover whether her restless spirit roams their property or they're merely haunted by her absence and the mysteries she left behind.

Reasons to watch:
Though the second half gets a bit in over its head with the Twin Peaks fandom, the first half of this "found-footage" horror flick is a poignant reflection on grief. Emotional performances from the cast, some innovative techniques with the faux-documentary approach, and a melancholic, creepy atmosphere that hangs over the film's events like a stormcloud make Lake Mungo worthy of recognition.
