Infinity Pool (2023)

Directed by: Brandon Cronenberg
Cinematography by: Karim Hussain

Plot:
Law enforcement officials offer struggling writer James Foster a twisted deal for his freedom after he's involved in a deadly accident while on vacation in a foreign land, leading James down a dark path with other upper-class tourists.

Reasons to watch:
Doppelgangers, body fluids, drug benders, orgies, savage violence, nightmare visions, horrific moral dilemmas, and a bunch of rich psychopaths fulfilling their basest desires. Complete with another of Brandon Cronenberg's goopy psychotronic metamorphoses, Infinity Pool is a very strange movie with very strange, very incredible performances - especially from the two leads, Alexander Skarsgård and Mia Goth (Skarsgård as the weak-willed and spineless James Foster, Goth as the manipulative, mayhem-inducing seductress who draws him into the dark doings of high society). Cronenberg's newest sci-fi horror flick has earned no shortage of nominations for the upcoming Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Motion Picture, and even though industry awards are dumb, it's always exciting to see a genre film receive some time in the sun. Infinity Pool doesn't dig too deep into its chilling sci-fi themes or moral philosophy past the now well-tread concept of "wealthy elites are the real monsters," but a compelling film nonetheless.

Where to watch:
Hulu/Kanopy
