It's just a piece of candy
Poetry 25
Soundwaves emanate from the counter
radiating with the echoes of gunshots and sirens
Playing a joker face-down with a full deck
Exchange a license plate for a half-tab
Crushed body under a granite slab
Under wheel and under heel
darting from the car's carriage
A mirage of making it to the other side
a failed reality
Cavalries swear fealty to death
for it's where they belong
In a hot kitchen with a fan bearing down
beating away the heat
I asked her way too many times
I was pleading for a chance
It's embarrassing to think about, honestly
The stench of smoke hovering in alerted nostrils
searching for a fire
Wet hair, a hunch-backed liar
sitting on a stool asking for one more
Chaser for the intrusive thoughts
that hit like a motherfucker
Grasping at straws I thought were there
A key in the lock while you're sleeping
A shadow over the shoulder
Glancing blows landed, a dimly lit face
Step off the pedestal for once
you patronizing prick
Projecting fantasy onto the canvas
