IG Decade Challenge 1970-1979

 Make It Darker

[2020]

As New Waves spread across the world, the 70s were a decade of super-charged politics, gritty atmospheres, freewheeling experimentation, increasing violence, disorienting paranoia, and above all, with the widespread accessibility of color technology: STYLE! STYLE! STYLE! Holy balls were these babies stylin’! Plus I got to catch unseen films from old favorites like Roeg, Herzog and Antonioni, and I finally had the pleasure of being introduced to such legends as Miyazaki, Fassbinder, Shepitko, and Erice. Damn I love the 70s.

1970-1979

Films watched: 18

Directed by: Donald Cammell & Nicolas Roeg; Bernardo Bertolucci; Fred Wolf; Jean-Luc Godard; Fernando Di Leo; Bill Gunn; Victor Erice; Masahiro Shinoda; Michelangelo Antonioni; Kinji Fukasaku; Felipe Cazals; Werner Herzog; Larisa Shepitko; Luis Buñuel; Fred Schepisi; Rainer Werner Fassbinder; Hayao Miyazaki; Shohei Imamura

Top 5 favorites:
1. The Spirit of the Beehive (1973)
2. In a Year of 13 Moons (1978)
3. The Passenger (1975)
4. The Conformist (1970)
5. Heart of Glass (1976)

Song for the recap vid is “Forest Families” by The Knife. Never edited to something that fast-paced before but I think it appropriately matches the atmosphere of the decade.
