A raw, blistering drama about unraveling minds in an unraveling friendship that may even have Ingmar Bergman smiling in his grave.
A very
Bergman-inspired psychological drama lead by powerhouse performances from
Elisabeth Moss and
Katherine Waterston, both of whom depict achingly layered and complex emotions (showing an advanced degree of emotional intelligence on the performers’ part even to be able to access those feelings) that keep the film at an unrelenting simmer, a degree below boiling point, leaving the viewer in a seat-squirming limbo. The tension is palpable, as they say.
