Top 10 Favorite Rewatches of 2022
Still slappin'

Starting off that sweet, succulent end-of-the-year list season with a brief rundown (I’ve already talked about a bunch of these in my monthly recaps so I’ll only comment on the ones I haven’t) of 10 movies I revisited this year and dug the most. It’s been 5+ years since I’ve watched any of these and they all still hold the fuck up. I enjoyed many of them far more this go around as well, likely due to the fact that I watch movies much differently now than I did when I was younger. Part of that is because of my unending film and art studies giving me a better understanding of the form and constantly opening up more avenues for appreciation; and part of it is from having a different mind state entirely as I continue to shed my skin and grow as a lizard person (馃憖) with new perspectives and values and life experiences that alter how I relate to and view media from my formative years. And yeah, some of these movies are just dope as hell regardless. But enough musings, LIST SEASON ACTIVATE!
Visionary any way you look at it, whether its revolutionary CGI, hyper-kinetic action influenced by East Asian cinema, or its prescient 21st-century themes and concepts regarding our still-budding relationship with technology.
With its expressionistic, darkly carnivalesque insanity, this would easily be by favorite Batman movie if it weren’t for Heath Ledger’s Joker performance in The Dark Knight.
Legitimately one of the most flawless performances in history.
Depraved, nauseating, singular: a sadistic nightmare and a twisted mirror where Gerald Kargl's masterful understanding of horror and form is on profane display, taking that unflinching gaze of European arthouse cinema that treats suffering as spectacle and refusing to look away.
