Modern-day archetypes emerge in danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn's most popular movie.

It really speaks to the quasi-mystical power of Nicolas Winding Refn as a filmmaker, and actors’ belief in and commitment to his vision, that a movie with such sparse dialogue scenes was able to attract Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Oscar Isaac, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman, Albert Brooks, and Christina Hendricks.

It’s a truly underrated ensemble in which everyone plays their part to perfection, submerging completely into their roles, enveloping themselves in the story, becoming brushes for Refn to paint a stylistic masterpiece, becoming contemporary archetypes in what reveals itself to be a modern day myth.
